Xbox One Home: The Last Guide to Customization

Add personalized contacts to your Xbox One with our ultimate home custom guide.

Microsoft continues to expand the customization options available to Xbox One users, offering the most flexible dashboard currently.

With custom color, layout, and shortcut options, it’s easy to make your console feel more homely than ever. And with more options along the way soon, we’ve wrapped up every home customization option so far – and how to access them.

Changing your Xbox One background

Like any phone or PC, one of the best ways to add a personal touch to the Xbox One is to set your custom background. Sitting behind the Microsoft Central User Interface (UI), allows custom backgrounds on the home menu.

And after reviewing the “flow design” of the Xbox Fall 2017 update, the extra transparency leaves a background that affects the feel of the console.

The easiest way to set up any background is to use a saved image, which can be transferred via an external USB device. Here are the steps to select and use your custom background image on Xbox One.

  1. Find a custom image to use as a background using a PC. We recommend an image with a 16: 9 aspect ratio with a minimum resolution of 1920 x 1080. This icon should be saved as a JPG or PNG file.
  2. Transfer this image to a USB storage device.
  3. Connect the USB storage device to your Xbox One.
  4. Go to the Settings app on your Xbox One.
  5. Select the Personalization tab.
  6. Choose my color and background.
  7. Select the custom image.
  8. Select your USB device from the listed drives.
  9. Select the image you selected.
  10. Press the menu while the image appears on the full screen.
  11. Choose set as background.

Numerous other sources are available for custom Xbox One backgrounds, including Xbox Achievement Art, captured screenshots, or dedicated apps. Check out our standalone Xbox One Custom Background Guide for a more comprehensive breakdown of these options.

Set the color of your Xbox One system

Expanding your dashboard mode, it also allows custom accent colors to be used across the Xbox One console. Reflecting the system throughout the menus, the color you choose adds an extra flavor to the standard UI. On the home menu, these custom colors command the styling of certain tiles and elements. Here’s how to change the color of your custom accent on the Xbox One.

  1. Go to the Settings app on your Xbox One.
  2. Select the Personalization tab.
  3. Choose my color and background.
  4. Select my color tile.
  5. Choose a color from the available options.

After customizing the colors, the transparency of the home menu elements can also be changed. Changing this value affects the acrylic effect of the selected elements and how their background appears.

  1. Go to the Settings app on your Xbox One.
  2. Select the Personalization tab.
  3. Choose my color and background.
  4. Adjust the home panel slider. It adjusts the bottom panel of the lower half of the house, recent games and apps housing.
  5. Tile slider tweak. This allows the color of the accent to be adjusted to the transparency of the inherited tiles.
